Fundraising Avenues

There are two fundraising avenues that affect the band/orchestra music programs as Harnett Central High
School:

1. Fundraising by Students

Funds raised by students belong to the school and are subject to fundraising rules of the school. The Band
Director monitors these funds and has discretion over the use of these funds. Often, these funds are needed by
the Band Director for music, entry fees, equipment, etc.

Some of the fundraising that has been completed by students in the past include Car Washes, and Candy
Sales.

2. Fundraising by Band Boosters:

Funds raised by the Band Boosters are spent at the discretion of the Boosters. The books are, however,
audited each year. This allows us to use the non-profit status of the school.

Some of the items/activities listed below are typically funded or assisted with funding by Band Boosters. These
include:

1. Travel: This may be a school activity bus or a chartered bus dependent upon the trip requirements. Usually
the costs include the gas and the driver.
2. Band Uniforms – Coats: Band Boosters have assisted with purchasing and cleaning of uniforms.
3. Music/ Drill programs.
4. Band Camp: some assistance with the costs of the camp.
5. Equipment
6. Food and drinks for students at parades, competitions, and away games.
7. Concession items to be resold.

2008-2009 Fund Raising Projects

Sign-up lists will be circulated seeking volunteers for concession sales.

1. Concessions at Varsity Football Games –

a. Tent near end zone - Cotton candy and candy sales – This area becomes very congested at halftime and
after. No more than 4 people can fit into this space comfortably.

b. 50/50 Raffle - During a 50/50 raffle, tickets are sold for cash. The winning ticket gets ½ of the money taken in.
50/50 tickets are usually sold near the entrance gate.

c. BBQ sandwiches and tea - A tent is set up near the entrance for the sale of BBQ sandwiches and tea.

2. Concessions at Junior Varsity Football Games - Drinks, popcorn, pizza, candy and snacks are sold at JV
Football games. These games are held on Thursday nights.

3. Concessions at Basketball Games - Basketball games are typically held on Tuesdays and Fridays. Items
sold include drinks, candy, chips, pizza, popcorn and pretzels. The concession stand is located outside the gym
and is a small space that will hold only about 4 people. Basketball games start at 4pm . Setup for concessions
needs to begin about 3:30 . 50/50 raffle tickets may be sold at some basketball games.

4. We also are enrolled in the Food Lion MVP community share program. All that is needed is your name, MVP
card number and telephone number. Food Lion donates to the boosters a portion of their profits. This is a
simple no cost way to support the Band Boosters.
